PC World has an interview with Mr.Nguyen Quoc Hung, CEO of LogiGear - the American Software Testing Corporation established the first and unique Unit of the Software Testing in Vietnam. How do you assess the market of software testing in Vietnam?
The young and active human resources; reasonable labor cost and well-trained students about science and technology are surpassing advantages that partly help Vietnam develop strongly in the future. Thoroughly understand the advantages, LogiGear is in the vanguard of paving the way for Vietnam so that Vietnam becomes a Centre of international Software Testing. LogiGear believes that the branch in Vietnam will be one of the leading Research and Software Testing Hub in the world because the labor cost is so reasonable; politics, economics, religions, securities, business conditions and policy of intellectual property are very stable. All above advantages help Vietnam become the leading choice for LogiGear to invest in supplying software testing service.
What challenges will LogiGear face with when investing in Vietnam in the situation of fresh software testing?
The main obstacle is to train human resources for the software testing. In Vietnam, skills for software testing employees was not concerned much in the past. Software testing companies in Vietnam also have the divisions of software testing but they are not very professional, so human resources in Vietnam has to be well trained before working for software testing companies. The training will be implemented through many different stages that depend on each working position. As matter of fact, fresh graduates in Vietnam have ability to acquire knowledge quickly, but their English is poorer than the required standard of LogiGear Vietnam. Therefore, we will train English for all employees. At our company in USA, all fresh graduates, before working for LogiGear, have to be trained specialty as in Vietnam. However, in the USA, students do not face difficulties about English. Furthermore, the professional working style is also a problem for employees in Vietnam, but not for those in USA.
How is the issue of training in LogiGear conducted?
Fresh graduates recruited by LogiGear are offered a training course with professional and modern curriculum from US. I myself am the co-author of the book Software Testing (Wiley, 1999) - the best seller IT book in the US, "Web-based Testing" (HappyAbout, 2007). These books will be translated and be available in Vietnam soon. We also use these books to train software-testing skills for our employees in Vietnam. In addition, we are also implementing the opening of training centers and the associated training programs for Vietnamese students since software testing human resources in Vietnam is scarce. Our company in Vietnam alone has nearly 400 employees. By the year of 2010, the figure is expected to reach 1,200. However, it doesn't mean that testing software human resource is a so big problem since software testing employees are not necessarily required of software knowledge only, they can have knowledge in IT, telecommunication, economics etc. Therefore, seeking human resources for this demand is not so difficult.
Where do you see Vietnam software testing future?
In Vietnam, software testing market is fairly small, like many other countries, even in the USA. Annually, more than $60 billion is expended on the errors of software, which have been available in the market. Twenty years ago when I was studying in the USA, no one wanted to study or pursue software-testing career. Nowadays, the boot is on another foot, software testing is creating a large number of job opportunities for students. To me, Vietnam is an ideal place for software testing, and I believe that professional software testing will develop well in the future here. Clients will save time and improve software quality with effective and careful checking from LogiGear Vietnam. LogiGear has set up a 3,000 square meter building in HCMC. LogiGear aims to gain 500 high-qualified employees in Vietnam by the end of 2008.
