logi_media_dir/images/news/48.jpg The proportion of software testers to programmers is 1:5. It means that for every tester there are 5 programmers as most students in IT choosing programming as a concentration rather than other areas such as software testing.

While headhunters have headaches for not being able to recruit qualified software testing engineers for a wide array of projects, students are still ignorant of this field.  If they are serious about applying, they should be more qualified to meet the requirements.

In the latest conference with software companies in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thang, Chairman of TNL Solutions, has pointed out that there’s a deficiency in human resources for IT, especially for software testers.  According to Mr. Nguyen and many head-hunters, there is a perception of IT students that programming is “prestigious” and testing is inferior since no one wants to devote their long university studies to testing the products’ bugs.  For this reason, the programming students do not invest their time in learning, enriching knowledge and relevant skills for software testing as well as their attention to the software testing field, resulting in a need for software testers.

This misleading idea resulted from a lack of information about software testing.  The students do not get an insight on the software production’s process, the importance of sprints, and positions in a software company.  Ms. Lai Thi Hanh, representative of Computer Science Center of HCMC University of Science, said that low-quality software would damage the company’s image and trust, meaning the company does not show enough respect to their clients.  Therefore, software testing is a crucial position in the process of software development and this work dedicates greatly to a project’s success.  Moreover, the work of software testing is not as boring as many students have assumed.  On the contrary, the tester frequently faces new challenges as he/she has to continuously be updated with the latest knowledge and information on devices and technologies.

Presently, software testing companies say that the demand for the testing career is vast. The current proportion of testers to programmer in foreign companies is 1:3.  Students who would like to work at software companies now have one more career opportunity in addition to the programming position.
